Hardware: D-Link DNS-323 RAID1 Format

Last month, I purchased the D-Link DNS-323 2-Bay Network Storage Enclosure (http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=509), along with two Samsung 750GB hard drives (mdel number HD753LJ).  I installed the two drives into the enclosure, and upgraded the firmware to v1.05.  However, when I tried to format the drives using RAID1, it just went up to 94% and stayed them everytime I tried to reformat the drives.  I have seen various posts on the internet from people having the same problem.

I was about to give up on the DNS-323, but as I had a Western Digital 500Gb drive (model number WD5000AAKS) in my desktop computer, I thought I would order another drive, and install them both in the enclosure.

When I had installed the two drives, I was suprised when the format of the drives completed, and now, everything works fine.  I can see the device in Vista.  I don’t use the Easy Search utility, I just map a network drive directly 🙂

Please review the USA technical support FAQ section (http://support.dlink.com/faq/view.asp?prod_id=2399&question=dns%2D323), which lists the SATA hard drives that have been tested.

The WD5000AAKS is listed as “currently being used by end users”, but it has worked for me 🙂
